Universal media server not seeing ps43/16/2023 ![]() Speed is not irrelevant in this context, but http is just as fast, if not faster. Do you see a lot of transcoding samba media servers? No, because it's the wrong tool. It's lightweight and the support for media devices is near universal, way way better supported than samba. Most importantly it supports a notification protocol for media list changes. Once the media server is fully installed, it will open a new browser window, which contains the Plex web app. Take advantage of this option by choosing healthy toppings and nixing the cheese and full-fat condiments. DNLA supports a well defined caching and simple announcement/locating peer protocol. 1.Simply download the appropriate installer and follow the instructions. It's insane that someone would loathe it so much.Īs a streaming service, it's quite terrible. Samba is great for people that half multiple types of devices and content that they want easy access to on their home network. I get fantastic speeds through my gigabit route so it doesn't seem to slow anything down. The fact that it's proprietary makes them extremely universal. XBMC (or Kodi as it's called now) handles them well. My media box (popcorn hour a-400) handles SAMBA extremely well. We have a PC and a few laptops in the house and it makes it insane easy to access those files on other devices (using windows explorer or program). IE I share my temp and media directories over samba. Zod wrote: ↑Samba is awesome when you need multiple tasks. My router (Asus A66) has a USB port for the hard drive, can I use it from there to play on the PS4? Is that basically what a media server is? How would I make the drive show up on PS4 from the router? I don't really know how a media server works honestly. I just tried last night, my USB drive doesn't work either (NTFS, with some shows like Fresh Prince, Simpsons, etc.). Well, maybe it's just something that needs a few more updates. Also apparently stutters on high bit rate 1080p rips (again, reported by others). So, we have a Japanese piece of hardware that can't play multi language tracks (as reported by others, you can't select other languages) nor play subtitles? So, ripping my anime DVD collection into an MKV format will be pretty useless at this point. I don't know what happened, but I think a recent Java update I did may have something to do with it. You simply click the 'allows streaming' option, set your playstation to be 'allowed' in the next list you see, and then go to your playstation and search for DLNA servers on the network. I've been using ps3mediaserver/UMS for the longest time, but recently UMS cannot seem to find my PS4 as a renderer. Just tested Mezzmo with my XB1 and that will play the ISOs transcoded by Mezzmo with full subtitle support streamed over my network! C'mon Sony.get on the ball. 1 Wasn't sure to put this in gaming or OT, but here goes. Also, tried playing some movies from the Plex server. Looks like I keep my WDTV box awhile yet. I am also attaching the trace logs from UMS. But it can be downloaded from asus website. I am not able to attach the router's user manual because of the file size limit. I turned off the built in UPnP media server but still no luck. I also noticed that this router has a built in UPnP media server which is enabled by default for attached usb disks. When trying to google this issue I do not get much, but found this other forum post where someone else was having the same issue with ASUS router and UMS back in 2015. Yes the IP addresses are different between the two routers, but it really doesn't matter, because when I restart UMS i can see in the logs that it picks up the new IP address. When I switch routers to my old TPLINK Archer C5 - UMS works right away. ![]() ![]() Even flashed it with merlin firmware, and still no luck. Spent several hours today again trying to get UMS to work with ASUS RT-AC68U router.
